Paris, January 12, 2018 :  Microsoft released a new .NET 4.7.1 release which is causing SpinFire to crash upon starting it up at the splash screen.

From what we can tell from testing,

  1.  Currently the updates seem to have been removed from MS's automatic updates however you or your clients may have received it before it was removed.
  2. We believe this occurs mainly with Windows 7 users.
  3. This new update was also found in the Windows 10 1709 (Fall Creators Update).

If you  have update to KB4055002 or KB4055532 then they will be affected by this.

Solution 1

  • Uninstall the KB4055002 / KB4055532 release(s) if possible.
  • To uninstall,
  1. Open the  Control Panel.
  2. Search for Installed Updates.
  3. Click View installed updates.
  4. Select the offensive item.
  5. Click Uninstall.

Solution 2

  • The development team has narrowed this down to a font that was replaced during the microsoft update. If the font is replaced by the older version (attached here) then it will also resolve the issue. The font must be replaced in two places.
    • C:\Windows\Microsfot.NET\Frameworks64\v4.0.30319\WPF\Fonts\GlobalUserInterface.CompositeFont
    • C:\Windows\Microsfot.NET\Frameworks\v4.0.30319\WPF\Fonts\GlobalUserInterface.CompositeFont
